The design proposal for the project is to solve the misconception of insects and promote the image of insects as one of the nature’s beauty. It is quite crucial to solve the issue as due to the lack of exposure of insects to the community, many endangered species of insects do not get much support from the community. Therefore, we should start to appreciate these tiny creature’s beauty before it is too late. The exhibition and learning hub will also provide different types facilities to the visitors to
enhance and strengthen the bond between humans and insects.

The concept that was applied to the design of the insect exhibition and learning hub will be “Butterfly Homeland”. The reason behind the concept is based on the believes of the client, The Goh Family (Founder of the Penang Butterfly Park), to reconnect humans to nature. The home of the butterflies are places where nature lies. Therefore, the “Butterfly Homeland” concept is applied to create a space in SS15 where the community could go to and connect to the nature. The subject matter that will be used for the concept is the butterfly house, a place where butterflies used as a temporary shelter.

The design of interior of the insect exhibition and learning hub will use a symmetrical design to replicate the symmetrical design on the insects. It also creates a balance design and colour flow to the surrounding. An earthy colour tone will also be used to give the visitors a sense of nature and comfort during their visit. The original shape of the structure will also be preserved which will be then used to imitate the butterfly house. As for the interior an open space will also be used based on the interior of the butterfly house which is also quite spacious where the butterflies can fly freely. The highlight of the space will be the Insect Interaction Zone which visitors could go in and interact the insects without any border. An open ceiling will also be used to take advantage of the sun path at the area and allow the sunlight to improve the growth of the plants and insects in the exhibition.
